Crimson Mist An awesome blend of rock and hickbilly with some powerful female vocals. Favorite track: Smash & Grab.

about

Destroyer, the second album from Salt Lake City rockers Magda-Vega, is a study in refined rawness. Laid down live in the studio at Mike Sasich’s acclaimed Man vs. Music, Destroyer’s 10 songs (plus a secret bonus track too hot to disclose) explode through the speakers like C-4 in the tailpipe of a Maserati. “Junkie,” the album’s opening cut, mashes the pedal to the metal with stoner-rock fury, segueing into the one-two garage-psyche punch of “X-Ray Eyes” and “Smash & Grab.” After a visit to Iggy’s Funhouse with the sleazy-sexy “Goodbye Kitty,” the band charges into Viking battle with the hard-rock saga of “Black Eagle.” A dance with the devil down by “The River” and a rifftastic run for the border with “Fatale” later, Magda-Vega sucks you into a shimmering “Blackhole.” Blues-punk grinder “Mr. No” then sets the final stage for the epic “Destroyer,” a harrowing doom-metal tale of intergalactic annihilation that drifts away into an ethereal coda. Destroyer bows to no genre … it just rocks.
